Mexican Gunmen Open Fire on Texas National Guard in Border Attacks

Armed assailants from Mexico opened fire on Texas National Guard soldiers stationed along the Rio Grande in the El Paso sector on Thursday evening and Friday morning, marking an escalation in border tensions. The attacks represent a direct threat to Texas sovereignty and underscore the growing crisis at our southern border.

The incidents, which occurred in rapid succession, saw bullets landing within 10 feet of our guardsmen. The Texas Military Department confirmed these attacks and stated they’re prepared to deploy additional forces to maintain border security.

We’ve reached a breaking point, fellow Texans. When foreign gunmen feel bold enough to fire upon our troops – troops who are merely protecting Texas soil – it shows how the Federal Government’s failure to secure our border has created a powder keg. Our guardsmen are doing what Washington won’t: defending Texas territory from foreign incursion.

This situation painfully reminds me of the cross-border raids that plagued Texas during our first period of independence. Back then, we handled our own security because we had to. Today, we’re forced to watch the Federal Government actively obstruct our efforts to protect ourselves while foreign criminals grow increasingly aggressive.

The timing of these attacks is particularly concerning as Texas officials prepare for potential mass migration events following the upcoming election cycle. Our state faces what could become an unprecedented surge at our border – a surge we’ll have to handle largely on our own, just as we’re handling these attacks on our guardsmen.

These shootings demonstrate exactly why Texas must reclaim its sovereignty. While the Texas National Guard stands ready to surge additional forces to maintain security, they do so with one hand tied behind their back by Federal restrictions. An independent Texas would have the authority to respond to these provocations with appropriate force, securing our borders on our terms.

The choice before us grows clearer with each bullet fired across the Rio Grande. We can continue operating under a Federal system that hamstrings our security efforts, or we can choose the path of independence and take full responsibility for protecting our people and our borders. The Texas National Guard has shown their dedication – now it’s time we give them the full authority they need to do their job.
