  1. I read the article, in Newsweek, and of course it pulls out its own “poll” which states that only ’23 percent of Texans want the state to become ‘an independent country,’ against 67 percent who support it remaining ‘a state within the United States.’ The remaining 10 percent answered ‘don’t know.’ ” Well, who did they poll? Really, they are just like every other anti-TEXIT organization they talk only to people that share their views but don’t talk to ENOUGH of the people to really find out what we think. Then there are the completely ignorant piles of folks who commented on the article at the Newsweek site. It seems that nearly every one of them are Yankees who have been taught “Yankee History” (that which has been presented by the winners of the Uncivil War of the 1860’s) and have been brainwashed into believing “the civil war and Texas vs White settled the question” in that those 2 incidents, the war and the totally erroneous Supreme Court decision made secession illegal. Of course, we who have studied these things, including the actual Constitution for the US know that 1) there is nothing in the US Constitution prohibiting a state from leaving, 2) in fact several Statesmen such as Thomas Jefferson stated that if the states cannot get along together then let them separate themselves and go about their own way. 3) In addition to which armed suppression and forced return to the Union did not settle the question.
Therefore, that Newsweek article is spurious at best and a total farce at worst. They quote Daniel Miller as supporting the right of the other 5 states that were cited to be able to have the conversations about independence and for their people to decide what they actually want to do. Then the commenters proceed to call everyone traitors saying it’s illegal to even to talk about it, let alone do it. They are the same ones who would become violent should people vote “the wrong way” in their minds. My final thought is: “What a bunch of maroons.”
