The Texas Nationalist Movement kicked off its new monthly webinar series, Texas Talks, with an in-depth discussion of the Texas Independence Referendum Act (TIRA) and the upcoming 2025 legislative session. TNM Executive Vice President Nate Smith provided members with a detailed breakdown of the organization’s legislative strategy and timeline.
Smith outlined how TIRA, if passed, would place a simple question before Texas voters: “Should the State of Texas reassert its status as an independent nation?” The referendum would be held during a constitutional amendment election, ensuring no interference from other electoral contests on the ballot.
The TNM has made significant progress in building support for TIRA, with thirteen legislators having signed the Texas First Pledge, including twelve House representatives and one Senate candidate. Ten of these pledge-signers are in strong positions to win their elections.
The path forward for TIRA in the 2025 session begins with pre-filing on November 11, 2024. Smith emphasized that the outcome of the upcoming presidential election could impact the timing and strategy for filing the bill. The final deadline for filing bills is March 14, 2025.
Key dates for the 2025 session include:
- January 14: Session opens
- March 3: First committee hearings begin
- May 12: Last day for committee reports
- May 16: Final House deadline for third reading
The TNM is not solely focused on TIRA. Smith outlined other critical legislation the organization will support, including:
- Election integrity measures
- Border security
- Economic sovereignty initiatives
- Texas resource security
- Texas military expansion
Smith emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement, noting that in-person contact with legislators carries significantly more weight than emails or phone calls. The TNM is developing new programs to facilitate member engagement with legislators, including a legislative liaison program.
Members interested in supporting these efforts can take immediate action by contacting their representatives through email, phone calls, and in-person visits. The TNM will provide additional resources and guidance as the legislative session approaches.
The webinar series will continue monthly, providing TNM members with detailed insights into various aspects of the Texas independence movement.

Why do I not have access to the stream? I have been a member of the 1836 club ($18.36 per month) for years. I have contributed thousands of dollars to the cause.
“1836 Club and TEXIT Insider members will receive their link to join the webinar the day before it is scheduled via email. Check you inbox and your SPAM folder.”
Apparently there’s no need for those of us who are 1836 Club or TEXIT Insiders to preregister for the stream. Sounds like we will automatically get the email prior to the webinar.
