Daniel Miller, President of the Texas Nationalist Movement, participated on the #EXIT panel at the 2022 Liberty Forum in New Hampshire. Here are highlights from the panel.
Miller spoke on the anniversary of the fall of the Alamo and opened with Colonel Travis’s pledge that his men would risk their lives under the flag of independence. The panel also included a CalExit officer and New Hampshire activists backing CACR 32, a proposed state constitutional amendment declaring New Hampshire independent.
Rather than argue details with skeptics, Miller said, he asks them one question. If Texas already governed itself and were deciding whether to join the union, knowing what Texans know about the federal government, would they vote to join? If not, why stay?
Miller described TEXIT as Texas withdrawing its membership in a political and economic union, and noted that Article I, Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution lists what states can’t do without mentioning leaving. He called exiting a process rather than a single act, since states already have their own constitutions and governments. On a federal response, he argued that Washington’s decades of backing self-determination abroad leave it few options against a legal vote.
