Grid. The Public Utility Commission of Texas finalized its ninth Texas Energy Fund loan, for a natural gas plant of more than 450 megawatts in Reeves County that Pecos Power Plant LLC is developing with co-sponsors Mercuria and Continental Resources, Governor Greg Abbott announced Wednesday. The plant is set to begin supplying the Electric Reliability Council of Texas grid in 2027, and the eight projects approved earlier under the fund’s generation loan program total 4,994 megawatts.

Sales tax. Comptroller Don Huffines sent $1.3 billion in local sales tax collected in September to Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts, 11.6 percent more than a year earlier, the Comptroller’s office announced Thursday. Cities received $796.0 million. Huffines said the rising revenue “is an opportunity for local elected officials to reduce property taxes.”

Schools. The Texas Education Agency’s inspector general for educator misconduct, Levi Fuller, told the Senate Committee on Education that 19,766 misconduct reports were filed in the 2025-26 fiscal year, compared with 5,707 the year before, Texas Scorecard reported. The agency added 1,079 school employees to its Do Not Hire Registry this year, up from 589. The committee’s Wednesday interim hearing, chaired by Sen. Donna Campbell, reviewed the rollout of Senate Bill 571, the 2025 law that tightened misconduct reporting and investigations.

Business filings. The Texas Secretary of State’s office put its same-day and next-day Texas Express filings online, the governor’s office announced Thursday. Texas has more than 3.2 million active business entities, up from about 1.4 million in 2015, and the new system lets filers submit every business document online, including mergers and conversions.

Texas Nationalist Movement calendar. The Brazoria County team of the Texas Nationalist Movement (TNM) hosts a meet and greet and Texian App workshop Tuesday, October 13, at Smithhart’s Texas Grill in Angleton, according to the TNM calendar, and the Llano County team holds a meet and greet Thursday, October 15, at The Falls in Llano. On Saturday, October 17, TNM teams hold information tables on the Llano Courthouse Square, at a park in Bullard in Cherokee County, and at the Texas Gun & Knife Show in Abilene in Taylor County.
