The Worst Session Ever Just Ended. Here Is How You Drain the Swamp in Austin.

Even under the worst battlefield he has seen, the TNM moved the ball forward, especially on economic independence, and that is the proof of what a few more honest votes could do.

The throughline of the night was simple and old: all roads to Texas independence run through the Texas legislature, so if that body is broken, you fix the body. You cannot vote out Nancy Pelosi or Chuck Schumer, Miller said, but you have exactly one representative and one senator who answer to your district, and last cycle incumbents got beaten up and down the ballot. He wanted another fifteen or twenty gone, and he was unsparing about what it takes to do it. Voting is the participation ribbon. Replacing a sitting incumbent means setting aside money, knocking doors, making calls, baking cookies for volunteers if that is the only skill you have. Sitting on the couch complaining, or mailing him a “you know what y’all ought to do” email, does not count.

He kept yanking attention back from Washington, where the Musk and Trump feud was eating the day’s oxygen while the so-called big beautiful bill piles roughly five trillion dollars onto a thirty-seven trillion dollar debt he calls fiscal child abuse. The federal system is unfixable, he said, and the standard reply that “Austin is no better” only proves the trap. Why keep two slave masters when you can peel one layer off the onion? Texas is rotten in Austin precisely because Texans pour their attention into a federal fight they cannot win, and the escape hatch is right overhead if voters will stop watching the walls close in and start climbing. He tied it to the transactional gold bill now waiting on the governor’s desk, which would finally let the comptroller stand up a precious-metals-backed Texas currency. Put that on a two-year clock alongside a legislature willing to authorize an independence vote in 2027, and you get the synergy he is building toward.
