Texas First. Texas Forever.

Make Them Answer for the Union: Election Integrity, a New Bill, and the Media Blackout

Recorded on the 186th anniversary of the fall of the Alamo, this Late Night Coffee Talk opened with the news Daniel Miller had been building toward all week. The Texas Nationalist Movement has launched an Election Integrity Task Force, led by Claver Kamau-Imani, after a primary that produced precincts reporting more than 100 percent turnout, candidates losing votes, and county election administrators breaking the law without consequence. Miller framed it bluntly. The task force will investigate, expose, and punish anyone who put a thumb on the scale, and it will gather the evidence to craft real election integrity legislation for 2023. But none of it works without volunteers, and refusing to help, he argued, is its own kind of answer.

The legislative front moved too. Former state representative Kyle Biedermann has joined the TNM advisory board, and Miller signaled that a new independence referendum bill is all but locked down for the next session. This time there will be no letting Legislative Counsel quietly rewrite the carefully crafted ballot language, which he calls one of the biggest problems with House Bill 1359. He also reminded viewers that several down-ballot races, including recounts sought by Tom Glass and Andy Hopper, are still in play.

Most of the hour, though, returned to a single theme. The conversation about Texas independence is already happening in public, from Ted Cruz laying out his criteria at Texas A&M to Chip Roy asking on the House floor what Texas joined the union for, yet the mainstream press stays mute, distorts, or spikes the story outright. Miller recounted his trip to New Hampshire, where he accepted the vice chairmanship of Americans United for Peaceful Separation and connected with independence movements from Alaska to Vermont to Puerto Rico. His charge to viewers was simple. They cannot censor a face-to-face conversation, so plug into a local group and tell the story yourself.
