Foreign Money in Texas Races, a Militarized Border, and the Difference Between Secession and Withdrawal

Daniel Miller opened this week’s Late Night Coffee Talk by working back through a punishing stretch of road. Candidate forums in Boyd and Llano packed rooms with Texans on fire to take Texas back, including transplants from California who got up to sound the alarm about what they left behind. He also paused to mark the loss of Roger Evans, one of the staunchest TNM members he ever knew, and made the case that the best argument for the movement is a person who walks the walk.

The night’s central argument was about money. A Texas high court had just handed Attorney General Ken Paxton a loss, ruling that election fraud must be prosecuted by district attorneys, and Paxton complained that the decision now hands that power to Soros-funded DAs. Miller turned that into the case the TNM has been making for years. A ban on out-of-state campaign contributions is not a campaign finance issue, it is a sovereignty issue. Texas forbids money from China, Russia, or Mexico because it does not want foreign influence in its elections. If Texas is a free and independent state, Miller argued, then Hollywood cash, K Street PACs, and Pelosi-and-Schumer money flowing into Texas-only races are foreign influence too, and they prop up an establishment that answers to its donors instead of its voters.

On the border, Miller laid out his alternative to running DPS traffic patrols thirty miles inland, where migrants have already arrived by the time they are stopped. Fully militarize the State Guard, which cannot be federalized, recruit combat veterans, announce that its first mission is the border, and deploy. He insisted Texas can act unilaterally and refuses to cede a single square inch of the state.
