Texas First. Texas Forever.

Filing Day in Austin: Daniel Miller Runs for Lieutenant Governor, and the DOJ Hands TEXIT an Opening

Daniel decompresses after a whirlwind day in Austin, where he walked into Republican Party of Texas headquarters and officially filed to run as a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor. He frames it as a fight he did not want but cannot walk away from, anchored in Article 1, Section 2 of the Texas Constitution: all political power is inherent in the people, and the people retain the right to alter or abolish their government. His platform is blunt. Abolish the property tax, fully militarize the Texas State Guard on the border, and put the question of Texas independence back in the hands of voters.

The other live wire is the Department of Justice lawsuit over the new Texas maps. A federal three-judge panel has set a January 22 hearing on the plaintiffs’ request for a preliminary injunction and an extension of the filing period, with overseas ballots due to go out January 15. Daniel walks through why this matters to the petition drive. Texas law ties the last day for petition signatures to the last day for candidate filing, so any extension of the filing window pushes the petition deadline with it. His read on the irony: the federal government meddling in Texas elections could end up helping put the independence question on the ballot.

He closes on Roger Evans, the longtime TNM member who painted his Suburban like a Texas flag and handed out books like pamphlets, who passed away. Daniel ties Roger’s death to his “cathedral builders” idea, the people who plant seeds for trees whose shade they will never sit under, and uses it to explain why he has zero patience for excuses on independence. Every second counts, and he is tired of losing committed people before they get to see Texas free.
