He reminded viewers that Texas was built with a deliberately weak governor under the 1876 constitution, so the idea that swapping out Greg Abbott alone fixes the dysfunction misses the point. Abbott’s real power is his war chest, and the only two things that move a politician like him are money and polling.
That set up the news he wanted to share. A Washington Examiner piece, published just hours before the stream, broke down new Zogby polling showing that younger voters and minorities increasingly expect states to break away. Forty-one percent of voters 18 to 29, thirty-nine percent of black voters, and fifty-one percent of Hispanic voters now see secession as likely. Daniel rejected the framing that this is the first step toward a second civil war, and he rejected the red-state, blue-state national divorce idea just as firmly. The union was founded on independent sovereign states, not political parties, and every state should be asking the same question Texas is asking. For a movement long dismissed as “old white men,” he argued the numbers say the opposite. The future of the electorate is leaning toward independence.
