  1. Kerr County

The police department in Ingram, a town of 1,900 on the Guadalupe River, joined the 287(g) program of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and within three months of an October 2025 party its officers had delivered at least 70 people to immigration agents, according to an investigation by ProPublica and The New York Times Magazine published by The Texas Tribune. At the October 2025 council meeting, the chief reported 162 traffic stops by two patrol officers in 20 days, and the council then gave the chief an $18,000 raise.

  2. Flood warnings

A new federal law, the Mystic Alerts Act, lets National Weather Service flash-flood and other emergency warnings reach cellphones by satellite when cell service goes down, The Texas Tribune reported. U.S. Rep. August Pfluger, a Texas Republican whose district sits just north of Camp Mystic, sponsored it after the July 2025 Hill Country flooding killed more than 100 people, among them 27 campers and counselors at the camp. The Federal Communications Commission has a year and a half to issue a final rule, and the rule would not take effect for at least three years after that.

  3. Alberta

Premier Danielle Smith told CBC Radio’s West of Centre that she does not need the support of those who want Alberta to leave Canada, and said she told United Conservative Party members on Wednesday to support the majority’s vote to stay or leave the party, CBC News reported. Smith said a requirement to show citizenship in order to vote is “very likely going to be the first thing that we act on with enabling legislation.” The next provincial election is in October 2027.

  1. Alberta count

Counting 20.4 million referendum ballots by hand took more than 96 hours, in the first provincial vote since the government banned electronic vote tabulators, CBC News reported. Elections Alberta said Saturday the unofficial count is still not complete in several areas because of “procedural errors made in voting places on Election Day,” according to its release. Official results are due October 29.

  2. Canada trade

Washington will lift the 50 percent tariffs it placed in August on some Canadian paper and plastic products, refrigeration and packaging equipment, agricultural machinery and seaweed products, and will put new Section 338 tariffs on other Canadian goods, including certain valves, carpets, shampoos and window air-conditioning units, CBC News reported.

  3. Scotland

At the Scottish Green Party conference in Inverness, co-leader Gillian Mackay accused First Minister John Swinney of “years of swithering” on new oil and gas drilling and urged him to oppose production at the Rosebank field, BBC News reported. Co-leader Ross Greer announced a proposed tax on flights to pay for a railcard giving people in their 30s and 40s a third off train fares.

  4. Texas Nationalist Movement calendar

A Parker County team from the Texas Nationalist Movement (TNM) holds an information table Saturday, October 31, at First Monday Trade Days in Weatherford, according to the TNM calendar.
