Newsweek published a feature Monday on the Texas Nationalist Movements 190th anniversary statement.
“190 years ago today, 59 Texans gathered at Washington-on-the-Brazos and signed a declaration that would change the course of history,” TNM posted on Facebook. “They staked their lives on a conviction: Texas is a nation.”
“They built a republic that stood on its own, conducted its own foreign policy, managed its own economy, and defended its own borders.”
Then came the economic reality check: Texas ranks as the worlds 8th-largest economy—bigger than Canada, bigger than Russia, bigger than South Korea.
We have the resources, the people, and the will to govern ourselves,” TNM declared. “The men and women who signed that declaration in 1836 would look at what Texas has become and see a nation that has outgrown the need for anyone else to make decisions on our behalf.”
“The best way to honor what they started is to finish it.”
The magazine noted TNMs 630,000-plus supporters and presence in all 254 Texas counties.
Texas already operates as a nation in many ways. We have our own energy grid, our own bitcoin reserve, and our own currency infrastructure. What were missing is the formal recognition that comes through a vote.
The question now is simple: Will Texans continue letting Washington make decisions for them—or will they take the helm?
