Matt Frazier told Daniel Miller that the Bitcoin boom hides a problem for anyone who cares about independence. Frazier split crypto into two camps. In the centralized one, exchanges and large funds hold the coins, and buyers have to link a bank account and hand over their identity. In the decentralized one, people hold their own keys and trade peer to peer with no middleman. Bitcoin, he argued, has drifted into the first camp: a handful of big players hold most of it, on a public ledger that federal agencies can trace.
The bigger fight, in Frazier’s telling, is over dollar-backed stablecoins, which he called a de facto central bank digital currency built to keep the dollar on top. Miller compared the arrangement to email providers that hand over customer records whenever the federal government asks.
Asked what Texas lawmakers should do, Frazier pointed to metal money, gold and silver with copper for small denominations. He also urged tying any future Texas currency to the oil, gas, land and cattle the state already holds. Speculation, he said, isn’t value.
