The Misperception of America

On July 6, 2017 The Atlantic published an article by Peter Beinart that personifies the problems currently plaguing the USA. It appears, from Mr. Beinart’s painful assertions from his hysteria filled headline to his disappointing conclusion, that President Obama was highly successful in his effort of “fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” The education system that drones out students capable of recitation rather than critical thinking has lead to authors who actually believe the disillusionment they print to excite their heartfelt yet disillusioned followers. Here are some key points in his misperception of America while referring to Pres. Trump’s speech in Warsaw, Poland.

President Trump addressing Polish Citizens

The out-of-touch-with-reality opening paragraph is an insult to Americans by referring to Trump’s supporters as “white nationalists” and insists that other Americans also need to understand what the president is really saying. Trump’s supporters are made up of a large variety of Americans of all races (black, Asian, Hispanic) and sexualities. “White” and “nationalist” are two of a diverse group of supporters and should hold the same relevance as any other adjective used to describe a supporter; everyone is going to support someone.

Redefining the West

Mr. Beinart proceeds to hang up on redefining what “West” means when someone refers to “the West.” Mr. Beinart says “a country must be largely Christian (preferably Protestant or Catholic) and largely white” to be considered “the West.” This is beyond utterly absurd and is a prime example of how the left has an inability to think rationally because they are so hung up on the “but I don’t want to be like you” rebellious juvenile stage. By very nature when people think of an area they imagine the most prominent feature. If I say “England” people are not thinking “Littlehampton;” they think “Big Ben.” It has nothing to do with race nor religion. If you ask someone in Asia “what comes to mind when you hear about the West” they are more likely to respond “America,” not “white Christians.”
It is not that Canada, Mexico or Patagonia is not a part of the West; it is that they typically do not function on the global stage the same way that the USA does. People look at America differently because America IS different. Mexico (and much of S. America) has a long, rich history of corruption and internal struggles against outlaw organizations and violently competing political factions. Canada, split between French and British, is socialist. There is nothing unique about them. They do not afford their citizens the opportunities to gain wealth like America does.

Presidential Contrast

Contrasting Presidents Trump and G. W. Bush, Mr. Beinart notes that Pres. Bush told the Poles that “We share a civilization…. Its values are universal.” Most American conservatives would disagree with Pres. Bush on that. European values are different from American values. Pres. Bush also incorrectly stated that “The desire for freedom resides in every human heart.” If that were so then the world would not have progressives. Many have said that Pres. Bush had globalist leanings considering the afore mentioned speech as well as his support for things like NAFTA and the Law of the Sea Treaty.
Pres. Trump has made no bones about his “America first” position. So when Pres. Trump says he wants to “make America great again” it should come as no shock when he says something like, “I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris” then withdraws from an agreement that he says is not fair to Americans.

Polish-American Connection

A major link between the US and Poland, Mr. Beinart declares, is our commitment to decreasing democracy and increasing authoritarianism and hostility toward Muslims. Perhaps a basic civics lesson is in order: The USA is not a democracy; it is a constitutional republic. While Mr. Beinart seems panicked when our “America First” president states “While we will always welcome new citizens who share our values and love our people, our borders will always be closed to terrorism and extremism of any kind.” It is inspiring that we once again have a leader who seems interested in our defense rather than placating our enemies.
Given that Poland had been overrun by Nazis and used as a prime location for Jewish extermination, one can not blame Poland for being a bit shy about accepting “refugees” who make it very public that they would like to see Jews eliminated from the planet and America reduced to Sharia Law. Poland remembers their salvation from the Nazis came from America. It is rather disappointing to hear people clinging to the line that protecting Americans is an affront to an entire religion; especially considering the complainers frequently make sport of attacking America’s dominate religion, Christianity; which incidentally is the very reason this nation exists in the first place.

Shocking the Left

Finally, Mr. Beinart displays a complete lack of understanding of the world when he says, ‘The most shocking sentence in Trump’s speech—perhaps the most shocking sentence in any presidential speech delivered on foreign soil in my lifetime—was his claim that “The fundamental question of our time is whether the West has the will to survive.”’ Mr. Beinart continues, “Jihadist terrorists can kill people in the West, but unlike Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union, they cannot topple even the weakest European government.” A glance into history reveals that the Crusades were EXACTLY this type of conflict. While the Crusades are popularized as the “Christian domination of Africa and the Mid-East,” the truth is that the Islamic jihadists were run out of Europe because their “no-go zones” expanded into general society threatening government functions and the social fabric. At that time “national identity” was still a thing in Europe.
While many like to point out the “violence of Christians,” I will submit to you that at the time of the Crusades the Pope was the de facto ruler of Europe. It was the Catholic leadership who was instrumental in protecting Europe from radical Islamic jihadists. Granted, the jihadists did not win; yet they are obviously still very active. However; in this modern era, we no longer have the Pope directing the world’s armies. Instead, the world has morally confused secular leaders who allow their own people to die because they find it more important to be politically correct than to hurt the feelings of their opponents.

Do we have will to survive

Nonetheless; the question of “whether or not the West has the will to survive” has absolutely nothing to do with Islam, Catholicism, N. Korea or anything else. It is about we as a people; our culture. It is an internal struggle against ones self. Will the West maintain its national identity or will it capitulate to external influence like Sweden when their own leaders say that immigrants should define the direction of the nation. It is a deeply profound question worthy of serious consideration. Those who see their identity as American; Southerner; Californian; and even Texas Nationalist daily answer the question of a desire for survival. This is what is sought to be preserved by the Texas Nationalist Movement.
