The NFL controversy over the players protesting during the Star Spangled Banner has Americans in a divided uproar. Is it disrespectful to not uphold the formal tradition of standing in attention, and for some, placing the right hand over the heart (an etiquette generally reserved for the Pledge, not the Anthem.) While a great number of Americans and Texans have engaged in numerous and heated discussion over the actions of the NFL players, Texans need to consider another aspect. Should Texans pledge allegiance to the American flag and honor the Star Spangled Banner?

A normal response would be to say “Of course Texans should honor…” However; the perspective changes for a Texas nationalist. It is no surprise if you have never considered it. The discussion has come and gone in brief over the years. As Texas Independence becomes a bigger conversation in society and grows closer to a reality Texans need to begin thinking about their allegiance.
The question is not about loyalty. Texas will always be loyal and respectful to her friends. There is no doubt that Texans care deeply for the union of states that surround our home. Together we have a rich and meaningful history. We share families and friends. We also share differences in values growing so massive that the union is fracturing.
Recently a radio host discussed unity and division. He pointed out that the only possible way Americans can have unity is to share values. If your values dictate that men and women should swap gender roles and mine do not then we will have perpetual discord. And so it is with a heavy heart that Texans find several members of the union melting away from founding values. It follows the rule in thermodynamics known as “entropy,” all things tend toward disorder. It takes hard work to maintain things. For this reason more and more find a home with fellow Texans in the Texas Nationalist Movement.
One man in discussion said that he refuses to pledge allegiance to the United States. However; a few took it a step further to say that they would not even pledge allegiance to Texas; but they would support an independent Texas as long as she stayed true to wholesome values and did not capitulate to left wing moral corruption.

Should Texans continue to recite the pledge and the anthem? Maybe sing the Star Spangled Banner but not recite the Pledge? What about celebrating on July 4th? Perhaps we should continue to participate only as long as we are still a member state of the union. Maybe we should start acting like we are already independent like the Catalans do. What if Texans started only reciting the Texas Pledge of Allegiance? With that, what if Texans took a knee during the American pledge because we refuse to acknowledge D.C.’s assumed authority over Texas?
