Three more Texas counties have stepped up to join the fight for Texas independence. Montague, Upshur, and Dawson counties have officially entered pre-launch status with the Texas Nationalist Movement, marking another milestone in the organization’s mission to build grassroots infrastructure across all 254 Texas counties.
The advancement of these counties brings TNM’s organizing footprint to over 100 counties statewide, representing significant progress in the movement’s comprehensive strategy to turn the 632,000 Texans who support independence into an organized political force capable of securing a referendum on TEXIT.
This is how independence movements succeed,” said TNM President Daniel Miller. “Not through social media posts or wishful thinking, but through committed Texans willing to step up and do the work in their own communities.”
Taking the Next Step
Pre-launch status means these counties have moved beyond the early organizing phase, where individuals lay the groundwork and build initial supporter networks. At least one person in each county has formally applied for a leadership position, indicating that real leadership is taking root.
These aren’t casual supporters or weekend warriors. These are Texans who have made the commitment to lead in their communities, understanding that Texas independence requires more than hoping someone else will do the heavy lifting.
The three counties join a growing network of organized Texas Nationalists spanning from the Piney Woods of East Texas to the High Plains of West Texas. Montague County along the Red River, Upshur County in the heart of East Texas, and Dawson County out in West Texas represent the kind of geographic diversity that demonstrates the broad appeal of Texas independence across different regions and communities.
Building Something That Lasts
What sets TNM’s county organizing apart from typical political campaigns or advocacy organizations is the focus on building permanent infrastructure rather than temporary election-year operations. These county groups are designed to become fixtures in their communities, consistently educating neighbors about Texas independence and building the kind of sustained pressure that eventually forces political change.
Counties in pre-launch status are working to recruit additional leadership applicants to build full seven-member leadership teams. Those showing sufficient progress may advance to TNM’s Limited Early Activity Program, an intensive effort that provides enhanced resources and support for counties committed to meeting strict participation requirements.
The goal is to identify Texans with the dedication and capability to lead independence efforts in their communities over the long haul.
Lessons from History
Independence movements don’t succeed overnight. Scotland pursued independence for 800 years before achieving a referendum. The modern movement for Texas independence has been building for less than three decades, with TNM’s systematic county organizing strategy launched just over a year ago.
What these three counties represent is the kind of methodical, strategic organizing that turns popular support into political reality. Polling consistently shows majority support for allowing Texans to vote on independence, but polls don’t win referendums. Organized, committed activists do.
The Bigger Picture
The advancement of Montague, Upshur, and Dawson counties comes as TNM continues its ambitious 18-month organizational restructure designed to establish county operations throughout Texas. The organization has already documented successful county launches in Angelina and Walker counties earlier this year.
With over 100 counties now in various stages of organization and more still to be organized, the work continues. But each county that advances represents progress toward the critical mass necessary to force Texas political leadership to respect the will of the people.
The Federal Government continues its assault on Texas values and prosperity. Washington bureaucrats grow more brazen in their contempt for Texas and more determined to reduce this state to just another federal administrative district. Meanwhile, Texas political leadership continues sending the same politicians to Austin and Washington, hoping they’ll somehow find the backbone to defend Texas interests.
The Path Forward
The Texas Nationalists in Montague, Upshur, and Dawson counties have decided they’re not waiting for permission from Austin or Washington. They’ve stepped up to carry the flag of independence in their communities, understanding that freedom isn’t something that gets handed to you by politicians.
These counties are now working to build the kind of leadership teams capable of mobilizing their communities when the opportunity for a TEXIT referendum presents itself. They join a growing network of organized Texas Nationalists who understand that independence happens because people organize for it, work for it, and refuse to accept any substitute.
The line has been drawn. These three counties have crossed it. The question is how many more will follow their example before the Federal Government’s next assault on Texas sovereignty forces the issue.
