Matt Thorsen, a Republican candidate for Texas State Representative District 67, has signed the Texas First Pledge, formally committing to put Texas interests ahead of federal mandates if elected. Thorsen, a small business owner and aerospace industry veteran, is challenging incumbent Jeff Leach in the upcoming Republican primary.
Thorsen and his wife Alisha have called Melissa, Texas home for 25 years, where they raised two sons, Matthew and Noah. Their deep roots in District 67 reflect the kind of community commitment that resonates with voters seeking authentic representation in Austin.
Before entering small business ownership, Matt spent over 12 years in the aerospace industry, where he held a high-level security clearance and gained experience in leadership, precision, and accountability. This background in a field requiring meticulous attention to detail and national security awareness brings valuable perspective to legislative service.
In 2012, Matt transitioned into entrepreneurship, eventually founding The Dallas Shutter Company in 2017. The family-owned business specializes in premium, U.S.-made shutters, shades and blinds, demonstrating his commitment to American manufacturing and quality craftsmanship.
Beyond his professional achievements, Matt has dedicated over two decades to serving his community as a youth minister and coach for football and wrestling. This calling to mentor young people in both faith and personal growth reflects the servant leadership qualities that inspired his entry into grassroots conservative politics, where he has served in leadership positions within the Collin County Republican Party.
Through his political involvement, Matt witnessed firsthand how Texans are being underrepresented by their current state leadership. After much prayer and thoughtful consideration, he decided to run for State Representative to restore authentic, conservative representation in Collin County.
Texas House District 67 encompasses portions of Plano, Allen, McKinney, Princeton, Anna, and Melissa in Collin County. The suburban North Texas district has traditionally leaned Republican but represents an important battleground for authentic conservative representation versus establishment politics.
Incumbent Jeff Leach has served the district since 2013 and is currently in his seventh term. Leach recently won reelection in November 2024, defeating Democratic challenger Makala Washington with 60.67% of the vote after surviving a Republican primary challenge from Texas First Pledge signer Daren Meis earlier that year.
The Texas First Pledge represents a formal commitment by candidates to prioritize Texas sovereignty and the interests of Texans over federal mandates. By signing this pledge, candidates commit to defending Texas’s right to self-determination and opposing unconstitutional federal overreach.
Signers of the Texas First Pledge commit to putting Texas interests ahead of party politics or federal pressure, defending the Texas Constitution and state sovereignty, supporting legislation that advances Texas independence, voting against federal mandates that violate the 10th Amendment, and standing with Texans who believe in self-determination.
Thorsen joins a growing number of Texas First Pledge signers across the state who are running for office in 2026. The Texas Nationalist Movement’s electoral strategy focuses on building a legislative caucus committed to advancing Texas sovereignty and eventually securing a vote on Texas independence.
