Who cares about the future Texas? Texans do! Social Media is rife with Texans vehemently defending our future independent republic. What does the future of Texas look like? We are not talking about business, religion, economy or politics. We are talking about our population.
A few years ago Roy Beck gave an interesting demonstration about immigration and population growth. This article is not about immigration but his video is is worth a look to get a visual about population growth.
Population Growth
In the pure sense of reproduction, Texas’ population will do one of three things; decline, sustain, or grow. It takes Texas parents making babies to grow our population. If the population does not grow then it must at least sustain. In other words, every adult must produce one child to replace themselves; or one and a half children to grow Texas’ population.
Often I jest that I am building a bigger Texas base with my children. By the end of this year my wife will give birth to my sixth child. It sounds like I have done plenty to expand the future of Texas. But really, not so much.
Between myself, my wife, my ex wife and her husband there are seven children. Four children replace each of us. That leaves only three contributing to the future of Texas population. We are one shy of equal growth.
Ideal Family Size
Babycenter.com discussed the topic of large families making a comeback. However, they consider more than two kids “Brady Bunch size.” They go on to point out celebrities as examples. However; this is a poor example for the purposes of this article because celebrities such as Angelina Jolie are known for adopting foreign children.
Pew Research stated the obvious when pointing out that these days the average family believes that two children is more than enough. For a nuclear family, two children will only sustain the population. Then factor in people that never have children for whatever reason. That places the burden of population growth upon child bearing families.

Selfish Parents?
With my sixth child on the way I have frequently seen people shake their head and ask if I know what causes that. I have read of people saying that parents of large families are selfish. That’s ridiculous. The amount of time and expense spent on our children is exhausting and fulfilling.
Sure, I would love to do more scuba diving and take more trips. But a selfie in front of the Parthenon pales in comparison to the love and joy my life has when my kids pile on me. My kids are the future of Texas. I hope and pray they serve Texas well.
The Need for More Kids
Some say it does not seem right to bring more children into this wicked, upside down world. That’s exactly why you should have more kids. The forces of good need more people.
The Left recognize this and have invested much into conditioning society into accepting smaller families as ideal. The Left are the ones that see humans as enemies of nature and should be eradicated. They are the ones advocating abortion, sterilization and self-extinction. They know conservatives will inevitably outbreed them.
Many women who choose to be stay-at-home moms are usually completely devoted to their family. For this reason the left refers to them as “uneducated.” That is their politically correct term for “stupid.” However; many of those mothers have a clearer understanding of life and love that leftists are missing.
So do your part for the future of Texas; have a couple more kids. Granted, it is not for everyone; but if you have been debating it, go ahead and do it. The Republic of Texas will need them. If you are holding out for a better income, well, I can tell you from experience that you will learn how to adapt.
