Paxton Sues Activist Group Over Illegal Voter Registration Scheme

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit Sunday against activist organization JOLT Initiative, Inc. for allegedly orchestrating a systematic voter registration scheme designed to register non-citizens and undermine Texas election integrity.

According to Paxton’s office, an investigation uncovered JOLT operatives stationed outside Texas Department of Motor Vehicles locations where they provided instructions that directly violated the Texas Election Code. The lawsuit alleges JOLT and its Volunteer Deputy Registrars coordinated efforts to recruit individuals to submit unlawful voter registration applications targeting those who lack proper identification.

“JOLT is a radical, partisan operation that has, and continues to, knowingly attempt to corrupt our voter rolls and weaken the voice of lawful Texas voters,” Paxton said in a statement. “I will make sure they face the full force of the law.”

The legal action seeks to dissolve JOLT’s corporate charter, forfeit its corporate privileges, and force the organization to pay the state’s legal costs. Paxton characterized the group as a “radical open-borders” organization attempting to sabotage Texas election integrity by registering illegal aliens to vote.

The lawsuit represents the latest escalation in Paxton’s ongoing battle to secure Texas voter rolls from what he describes as systematic attempts to corrupt the electoral process. His office has previously sued multiple counties over voter registration initiatives.

JOLT Initiative, which focuses on civic engagement among young Latinos in Texas, has previously filed its own lawsuit against Paxton’s office, claiming voter intimidation and discrimination. The organization has characterized the Attorney General’s investigations as baseless scare tactics meant to suppress voter registration efforts.

The timing of Paxton’s lawsuit comes as Texas continues asserting state control over election administration against federal interference. State officials have consistently argued that Texas must maintain sovereignty over its electoral processes to prevent non-citizen voting and preserve election integrity.

According to the lawsuit, JOLT’s alleged scheme specifically targeted DMV locations where individuals might be seeking identification documents. The Attorney General’s investigation found the group’s operatives were instructing people on how to circumvent legal requirements for voter registration, potentially enabling non-citizens to register illegally.

“The left constantly tries to cheat and rig elections because they know they can’t win honestly,” Paxton stated. “Any organization attempting to register illegals, who are all criminals, must be completely crushed and shut down immediately.”

The Georgetown Law Institute is representing JOLT Initiative in its legal battles with the Texas Attorney General’s office. The organization maintains its voter registration efforts are lawful and serve eligible Texas voters.

This legal action underscores the broader conflict between Texas sovereignty advocates and organizations they view as undermining state control over elections. The case highlights ongoing tensions over who controls voter registration processes and how Texas protects its electoral integrity from outside interference.

The lawsuit filing is available through the Texas Attorney General’s office. Court proceedings are expected to begin in the coming weeks as both sides prepare their legal arguments over voter registration practices and election security measures.

Texas election officials continue monitoring voter registration activities statewide as part of ongoing efforts to maintain clean voter rolls and prevent illegal voting. The outcome of this case could set important precedents for how Texas regulates voter registration organizations and protects election integrity.
